Advising and Mentoring services are offered to targeted students (e.g., first year EOP and PAP). Student Success Advisors (SSA) and Graduate Mentors (GM) receive training prior to mentoring students. These staff are not academic advisors but work with academic advisors to ensure student success. SSA's and GM's are assigned to students before classes begin. Students are introduced to their SSA/GMs and to other academic support and retention services at a special seminar focused on student success before classes begin. Even when a student is excelling academically, we are there to help students reach beyond their coursework to experience all the University has to offer. To make an appointment with your SSA/GM, visit go.illinois.edu/OMSAAppts.
If you do not have an assigned staff member, the Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) will be hosting Drop-In Advising & Mentoring hours at the Academic Services Center (ASC) located at 1103 W. Oregon Street, Suite E, Urbana, IL. You will have the opportunity to meet with an OMSA staff member daily on resources and support for your academic success. You can also drop-in to our Zoom link daily from 9am – 12pm. Visit us in-person at the ASC or at the cultural centers in the afternoons!
